You can help. Seriously, help.

June 29th, 2009

I don’t know much about bike parks.  I haven’t ridden on one since I was 6.  Wait I do know something about bike parks.  They are RAD!  Fun for kids of all ages and a great activity to get your kids involved in.  I mean seriously, I used to ride one when I was 6 and look how I turned out.  Hmmm, I okay so maybe that isn’t the best pitch, but bike parks are a good cause.  If you agree then Victor Velo could use your help.  This non-profit group “exists to promote healthy lifestyles and economic development in Victor, ID by providing diverse cycling opportunities.”  Sounds like a great cause to me.  As luck would have it Victor Velo’s current goal is to build a Bike Park.  What are the odds that I would be writing a blog about bike parks that just happens to correspond with this project.  Freaky!

bike-park-schemeAbove is a schematic of the bike park that Victor Velo is building in Victor ID.  The group is asking for help to accomplish their goal of building a sick bike park.  I have no permission to post any of this, but I figured the group wouldn’t mind if I tried to help get the word out.  Below are details about the project and how you can help.

Victor Bike Park Project

“Victor Velo, an Idaho Non‐Profit, has the City of Victor’s approval to develop a bike park within the boundaries of Pioneer Park. An in‐town bike park is designed to pack as much fun as possible into a small space while teaching the youth of Victor Idaho about the lifetime sport of cycling. Victor Velo’s vision for a bike park has been adopted as key part of the Pioneer Park Master Plan at the recent Pioneer Park planning workshops.
Victor Velo will begin the construction of a pump track & set of dirt jumps as the next step towards a multi‐discipline cycling facility unique to Southeast Idaho. A pump track is a cycling feature that looks similar to a skate board park, but made of dirt, and is designed to accommodate cyclists of all ages and skill levels.”

Equipment we will need from July 16th ‐21st

• 125‐200 Excavator ‐ 2 days
• 1 Loader ‐ 2 days
• 1 Mini Excavator (preferably tracked) ‐3 days
• 1 Skid Steer ‐ 3 Days

I don’t want to speak for the group any more than I already have so here is a list of wonderful people to contact if you have questions or would like to help out.  Thanks for listening.
