Here is an image from one of the Teton Pass cameras. Although this is technically not the first snow of the season, it is the first winter storm of any size. I like to see the snow, but I really like that people still do donuts in the snow.

People often ask us what this blog is about. That is a difficult question to answer. We like to use it however we see fit. We really like to try to bring the feel of the retail store to the website. We have learned that this is not an easy thing to do. We try to get employees and customers to send us pictures of cool things they have done or things they are interested in. Sometimes that means pictures of big fish. Sometimes that means a picture of someone jumping off a cliff with their new skis. Sometimes it is just a picture of a birthday girl enjoying a nice cupcake. What do cupcakes have to do with selling gear online? Nothing, but they are delicious. Here endith the lesson.

Every April the dedicated employees of the Teton Village Sports retail store at the base of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort leave the store for parts and jobs unknown. Only to return every fall to continue their roles as the “Best Ski Shop Employees Ever”. There is no scheduled date for this migration back to the store in the fall. They flock instinctively like the swallows of Capistrano or the elk that winter in Jackson Hole every year. They seem to just know when summer is over and they come running back to the Hole. For the first time every this migration was catch on film.
Here is a rare photo of TVS ski and snowboard repair master Erik Cohen emerging from the sea as he starts the long, perilous journey back to the mountains. Hard to believe he has spent all summer in his Hurley board shorts body surfing on the New Hampshire shore.

Once again, Grand Fishing Adventures Guide Mitch Luedloff proves that he is a trout whisperer. If you find yourself in the greater Yellowstone area and want to fish with the best look Mitch up. If you are lucky he will teach you how to tie some of his custom patterns. I wouldn’t hold your breath though.
I don’t know what these two used to catch this monsta native, but I’d bet it was a pattern that you have never heard of.

Its turning to fall in the Tetons and all around Wyoming. Its the time of year to take advantage of every weekend cause it could be the last nice one before cold temps and wintery mixes. This weekend I went into the Wind River Range with some friends. It is full on fall down there and the colors were prominent. The trout were hungry and so were we. Here’s some pictures from the weekend:

Hampton Kew with Cutthroat Trout and Cigar. Hampton points out that cigars are included in the price of the guided trip. Sounds to good to be true. I can’t be sure, but this looks like some of the fine trout water that Wilson, WY has to offer.

Part of being a ski bum is having a true lust for gear. This is why our employees make excellent customer service people. They will talk to people about everything from ski socks and long underwear to the sickest new powder skis. As long as they are talking about the mountains and gear. Talking about the gear is fun, but purchasing new gear is even better. So today I went one step closer to the upcoming ski season. I took all the money I have been saving from catering all summer (ski bums always have several jobs) and bought a new jacket to round out this seasons kit. This years winner is:
The Arc’teryx Alpha LT jacket! I have decided to see what the fast and light crowd have been raving about. As some of you know last seasons jacket was a big decision. I hadn’t purchased a ski outfit for 8 years. At the time I was looking for a jacket that was made from recycled materials. The jacket I picked was made out of recycled bottles which was great, but the fit was not great and I found it a little heavy for my missions into the side and backcountry. This year I have decided to not be so concerned by the materials that go into the jacket, but the quality and durability. I figured if a Bonfire jacket lasted me 8 seasons then an Arc’teryx jacket made from 3 layers of Gore-tex Pro Shell should last me forever. So maybe the entire life cycle of a garment is more important than it’s initial footprint. Who knows. Oh yeah, while inbounds at JHMR I will again be rocking these delicious pants:

The Rossignol Tribe Shell pant.

Pictured is TVS’s own Mac Munro dominating the Teton County Golf Tournament in his Loudmouth Golf Evel Jean. I’m not sure, but I think they helped spur him to victory over everyone else. Next he will attempt to jump the Snake River in his golf cart.
