Great weekend and found a nice little river with very big fish. See exibit A.

I recently went camping down off of the Skyline Highway by Fairview, UT. Though the temps were a frigid 100 in Salt Lake they were a balmy 76 where we were. I couldn’t have asked for more, we had a full moon and the fishing was great. What was interesting was the fact that we seemed to be the only group who was willing to use our feet to get around as every person we encountered was on some sort of ATV. During our cool down Scotch session in the evening Heather and I noticed that we were pretty much wearing the same things-I guess great minds think alike, not to mention, enjoy being warm and comfortable.
Here is the list and why we like these items.
Chaco Z2′ sandals–great for hiking and rivers & real arch support
Kaenon Polarized Glasses–Allow me to stare, helps me see the fish, makes me look that much cooler (I need all the help I can get)
Icebreaker base layers–Wool, so we don’t smell, super durable, has a very wide temp range
& Arcteryx fleeces–Stretchy, great fit and they have great style.
The second picture is what we could consider Utah trolling as we saw no other boats last weekend. Yes, this is a paddle boat towing a boat full of fishermen trolling. It was just awesome to watch!
Hope you all are well. MTF.

I recently got my newest Icebreaker piece, the Oasis 200 Crew CAMO!! I wore it mountain biking last weekend in Salt Lake City with impressive results–multiple near-misses with other bikers and animals due to my improved invisibility. Aside from helping me almost suffer multiple head on collisions, I also found it had: A nice non-restrictive fit and a nice temperature range for the hot, uphill and cool, fast downhill. MTF, Alby
P.S. If you ever ride in SLC you should try Jacob’s Ladder in Corner Canyon. Solid.

Since he submitted no image, enjoy this . . .
I’m pretty sure that I was the only person on the strip wearing an Icebreaker technical piece similar to this during my last trip to Las Vegas. I must say that though I looked so good I could walk past any red velvet rope in town, I didn’t feel that I blended well with the majority of Vegas fashion–shiny shirts and “Tapout” T-shirts (See photo)
Luckily, I had dinner with some customers of mine from the mountains who were very impressed with my attire and the fact that wool can be so soft. They said that my Icebreaker fleece looked so good that it was later used by the hand model in Snowbird’s most recent photo of the day.

Though I was able to get a good mountain bike ride in this weekend it appears that skiing could be next on my list. Already people are skiing at Alta and Brighton and it looks like we are due for another 5+ tonight. I better get my quiver in order but what to get for the backcountry. Well, I’m off to Vegas….

Why do we ride? Cause there is a beer at the end? You can always tell someone who had a great mountain bike ride by white feet and ankles and dirt covered legs. Here is an example of a ride well done.
Have a great one.

So fun was had by all at the lake this year and the addition of the Brown family was super-sweet. I’ll do a proper blog but here a sunset worth bloging about. Have a good one everyone. ALBY

Love my new fishing bag! I was given a Fish Pond Cimarron bag for my fly fishing gear by my brother and sister. This bag really lets me stay organized and prepared whenever I get the sense there is a 6″ trout that needs to be put back in line. Never again will I be looking for that one small items as it’s all in this bag now. It has an area underneath for wet stuff and the fold out mat is perfect for changing. Here are some photos of the bag in the Provo river parking lot right before a nice caddis hatch.

This bag holds my rod, gear, waders n' boots and COORS!!
I was given a Chuck Norris t-shirt from Dan “Danimal” Landis and his wonderful wife Dorota which I decided to wear the entire weekend. I’m pretty sure Chuck helped me dominate this weekend. We banged out Bald Mountain pass on Saturday and crushed Big Cottonwood canyon to Guardsman’s pass yesterday.
We then took the show on the road to do some fly fishing. Unfortunately Chuck doesn’t like to fish what he prefers to do is conjure lightning an sheeting rain so never take Chuck to fish, unless it’s for a Great White Shark.

As you can see my friend Brendan Rodman is holding the first fish of his 30th birthday. I probably caught this fish about 4 years back when it was 4-5” long. This was caught in Dinosaur National Park where it flows into the Green River—which was chocolate at the time. Happy birthday Brendan and nice job on the fish. MTF, Alby
