For those of you considering dropping some hard earned cash on powder skis let me make a recommendation. Do yourself a huge favor and buy a rockered, or reverse cambered ski. I have been preaching the value of these skis all season, but I had one of the best ski days of my life on Saturday so I thought I would bring it up just once more.
I strapped on a pair of Salomon Rockers and hit the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on Saturday for some bluebird powder skiing. In the past I would have taken my gigantic 195cm snowboard out do to the copious amounts of powder. For those of you who do not know, there is nothing better than riding a snowboard in powder. Anyways that story is for another day. Today we are going to talk about the best thing that has happened to the ski industry since shaped skis (also taken from snowboarding, but we will leave that alone for now as well). Rocker skis!! This innovation to skiing is simply remarkable and I do not understand why people are so afraid to get into. Rockered skis allow you to ski powder like a, well for lack of a better phrase “Rock Star”. I will use the term effortless. These bent skis give you more float in powder which makes it easier to turn in powder and ELIMINATES THE NEED TO LEAN BACK. Why is this important, well for those of you who do not participate in months of ski fitness classes before you take your ski vacation rockered skis will eliminate the intense pain you feel in your legs that is caused by the aggressive tail-gunning technique that you are no doubt using in order to keep up with your buddies.
Now I’m not saying that these skis will allow you to carve a groomer like Body Miller, but you will ski powder like a seasoned heli-guide. Maybe even better than one because I bet they are still using traditionally cambered skis.
So be the first one of your powder skiing friends to get on a pair of rockered skis. Trust me you do not want to be the last. I don’t even care which one you buy. Here is a list of some of the ones we sell and recommend, but believe me there are others. Get a second job if you have too,
