What’s a Royal to do when she feels the call of the Park and Pipe? Here’s a peek into the Hallowed Halls of the Marker Royal Court where the answer is to strap on a Jester and go!
Arc’teryx has created another masterpiece with their new Alpha SV Glove and Mitt. They are the most comfortable pair of gloves I have ever worn. That is because they were designed to be perfectly articulated for the human hand. Arc’teryx also completely rethought the way Gore-tex gloves are designed. They managed to considerably decrease the bulk in these gloves and mittens so they are light and give you great dexterity while being very warm at the same time. I’m thinking about selling my car for a pair.
In honor of the weatherman calling for snow tomorrow morning here in beautiful Jackson Hole I thought I would put a skiing photo up. Love this shot of yours truly in B.C. Many thanks to Arc’teryx for inviting me to Dealer Camp this year. It was the trip of a lifetime. The skiing was great. The opportunity to test all of Arc’teryx’s gear should never be passed up. The Alpha SV glove is truly worthy of all the hype. I can not imagine a better location for a backcountry ski trip. Callaghan Lodge should be on the list of any backcountry enthusiast. Especially, if they like great food and lodging not to mention the appis. Many thanks to all involved and I hope to see every again soon. If not in the Callaghan Valley then somewhere similar.
Teton Village Sports‘ hardgoods buyer Duffy McGee getting down to business with the Icelantic boys. Collared shirt – check, calculator – check, man purse – check, plastic cup of unidentified liquid – check, “Let’s talk about the 2011 Icelantic Shaman”.
The image above is a typical scene that you might see this time of year on Teton Pass. When the lifts close at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort local skiers take to the hills and earn their turns. Usually the are searching for corn snow. This spring skiers have been rewarded with powder skiing as storm after storm seem to be extending the winter season. So get out there and enjoy a few more pow turns before the weather turns warm.
Seeing as the snow isn’t gone yet and people tell me this is a good time of year to be up north skiing I thought a picture of an Alaskan ski line might be fitting for the blog today. Think you have what it takes?
I skied powder today. The skiing was so good the snow was hitting me in the chest as I rocketed down the slopes on a bluebird day in Jackson Hole. Some people get excited about “face shots”. I probably would if I knew what one felt like. Alas, I am a giant so no face shots for me. When the snow gets up in the chest region though I know it is party time. I wish I could say that I got some pictures of it. I don’t have a camera though and no one sends me any pictures either. So I am stuck trying to get you people fired up about skiing powder on closing weekend with nothing, but words. I am not much of a writer though so I decided that it would be better to rip a friends Facebook picture.
To try to give you a since of the amount of snow that has fallen and we are skiing in Jackson I using this picture of some friends of mine nordic skiing in Norway. Notice the amount of snow they are skiing through. The trees are covered, the snow comes up to at least their shins, which in a nordic situation is a lot of snow. Imagine if you can the snow level being at their mid-thigh area. Then image the picture rotated about 45 degrees in a clockwise direction. Then imagine that the skies are blue and the sun is shining. That’s how today was. Takk for å demonstrere Martin and Nancy.
Temps have been warm and the snow is receding fast here in Jackson Hole. Many folks have started to change gears and have started to think about biking or their spring trip. Not me. I am going to keep the winter going. If it is to warm for skiing locally (it is going to get cold in Jackson again very soon) go North. That’s what I always say. Fortunately, I was very recently invited on a backcountry trip for a few days of skiing in B.C. If you need me next week I will be here:
This is a window at the Callaghan Loadge that looks out on some of the terrain. If you are having trouble seeing the terrain here is another look:
I’m looking forward to a little ski touring. I am going to give the Scarpa Skookum a test drive. I’ll let you know how the Skookums perform.
The Jackson Hole Town Downhill event is this weekend at Snow King. The boys over at Wedco just sent me this sneak peek of the new crown that a former champion had commissioned. Why does the winner get a crown you ask. Well, when you live in a town populated by former olympians, world cup racers, collegiate national champions, a bunch of those guys from high school who were always the best and a bunch of people with chips on their shoulders who think they have something to prove you can imagine the level of competition out there. Not to mention the bragging rights involved. I actually had a local tell me that he was going to quit the event for life if he lost to one of his buddies again. Good luck to all the competitors who are brave enough to take on the mini hahnenkamm course. Especially, to TVS owner Bill Campbell.
I woke up this morning pretty nervous about competing! I knew my line, but only skiing two day before a comp had my nerves a title higher than normal. There was not a lot to my line, besides a technical straitline about halfway down that had an ice bulge in the middle. I was excited to ski it, I knew it would get my blood pumping! There is not a lot of snow […]
