We have the best customers

March 3rd, 2010

Last week we received the most amazing present in the mail from a customer of ours in New York.  Apparently, one of our order fulfillment specialist (a.k.a. warehouse dude) was feeling fresh one day when we were shipping the customers order and made mention of a beer that is brewed in the customers home town on the packing slip included with the product the customer ordered.  Sure enough a week later a fresh 12 pack of delicious Utica Club beers arrived in the mail from the customer with a note saying we put a big smile on her face.  Well Jeanine let me tell you the smile you have put on all of our faces here at the worldwide webquarters!  We are only wondering if you want the cans back for the deposit $.

In this time of Olympic displays of prowess the finally tuned athletes/ski bums in Jackson Hole participated in the age old Jackson tradition of Gelande Quaffing.  This is an actual competition with prizes for the winners, but it looks like everyone was a winner this year.

Technical Wear

February 25th, 2010

tech-ski-wear-1I had the opportunity to spend some time with TVS Repair Technician Eric “Junior” Cohen and TVS Ambassador Courtnee Wilhite on a slack-country tour last weekend.  We had a fantastic tour around the block.   The photo above is a great example that TVS folks are great product testers.  They participate in all kinds of outdoor activities at many different levels.  Notice Courtnee and Eric are rocking  outerwear from The North Face.  TVS folks love The North Face’s gear.  It should come as no surprise to anyone that their outwear performs at the highest levels here in Jackson Hole.  What I did not know until Courtnee and Eric educated me was that The North Face makes a highly technical line of pancake wear.

tech-pancake-wear-1Above Eric tests his North Face hoodie on National Pancake Day.  He claims the marsupial pouch is great for extra syrup while the supple cotton fabric is good for absorbing spilled syrup or wiping partially chewed pancakes from the corner of your mouth.

The Life of A Ski Photog

February 8th, 2010

bez-lunchTVS Correspondent/Photographer/Slum Lord Chris Bezamat checked in from points unknown.  Chris and the TGR gang are heading to Europe for a few weeks of skiing.  I didn’t hear where they were skiing, but they are going through the European skiing Mecca of Amsterdam so I’m sure the footie will be epic as usual.    If ever you were wondering what life on the road is like for a film crew or the pros it seems to look a lot like the picture above.  Glorious food, delicious beer and then a lot of scrambling around to find the best snow.  I am not qualified to comment on any of these trips since I have never been on one, but this is what I gather through years of stories.  It isn’t just powder turns and apres skiing sessions for these guys.  They work hard.  If you want pictures of people actually skiing powder check out Chris’s website.  I will try to get some more stories from the road for you.

Repair Regulators

February 3rd, 2010

Repair Regulators1Apparently, the Teton Village Sports repair shop has their own uniform this year.  It is not surprising as these guys tend to march to a different drummer.  Guys who like to spend their evenings breathing wax fumes, discussing the best ratio of epoxy to microfibers for a sidewall repair, eating greasy pizza, testing new base grind patterns for the Margarita Cup team’s race skis, tuning demo skis and reinventing the wheel just to make sure that is how they would have done it don’t run with the crowd.  Above Braden(Male Model) and Eric (Junior) model the Patagonia R1 Pullover and the Flylow Chemical Pant.  If you are looking for a great tune or need a ski fixed come find these guys.  If you are looking for male fashion advice please ask the ladies (and Jason) in the retail department.  Even though junior has accessorized his R1 Pullover with matching Tecnica boots he is not the guy you want designing your on-snow man kit.

Deep

January 26th, 2010

L Butze DeepI apologize if this photo is a little misleading.  I agree that it looks a little like a resort photo of the day.  Above is a picture  of TVS’s new Mountain Rep. Lauren Butze.  We were really hoping to get a shot of Lauren ski powder, but as is always the case at TVS the camera tends to only capture shots for the blooper reel and not the highlight reel.  Regardless, I think this shot does a fantastic job at pointing out how much snow we have received in the last few days.  Apparently, Lauren was ripping powder and didn’t see a cat track.  Cartwheels ensued and when all was said and done she was briefly buried in the fluffy white stuff before surfacing for air as if she were a bait fish being forced out of the water by a giant striper.  Welcome aboard Lauren.

Outdoor Retailer 2010 Winter Edition

January 20th, 2010

red door

I apologize if I miss a post or two this week.  Some of the Teton Village Sports Gang is heading down to Salt Lake City for Outdoor Retailer.  We use this trade show to search for new products and see the new lines from our current vendors.  It is an great time of year for gear junkies like us.  Seeing next years products is always exciting.  This trip always yields great new products and usually a good story or two.  Sometimes we get kicked out of the bar pictured above for throwing boomarangs sometimes we see gun fights.  You just never know.  I just hope the folks at 66 North provide weird fish snacks at their booth again.

P.S. if you are ever in downtown SLC you should go to the Red Door.  Great bar.

Margaritagiant slalom

Personally, I don’t think the two things pictured above go together.  I do think they should be enjoyed in succession, but not at the same time.  Unfortunately, no one listens to me and the first race of the Margarita Cup is tonight at Snow King Resort.  I can’t wait to get out there with my cowbell and cheer both TVS teams on.  I just hope they are not too hopped up on tequila to finish.  It gives a whole new meaning to DNF.
