After years of dabbling in longboards from our great friends at Arbor,
we decided to take a leap forward (maybe a step back) into the retailing
of skateboards. To remain true to our roots of selling the things we
actually use, our focus was quickly narrowed into the category of skateboards
referred to as "old school" - decks, trucks and wheels that we used to
ride on when we were younger. It was great to find manufacturers like
Powell, Vision, Santa Cruz, Kryptonics, Independent, Bones, Zorlac, G&S
and Tracker were still embracing the 70's and 80's as if they were yesterday.
It was also great to get back into the pool.
It was late in 1978 when the first "pig" hit the market. A wide, flat,
single kick tail deck designed to improve performance when riding pools
and pipes. To see a photo with a 10" board and a pair of Tracker Fultracks
was a pretty funny site. Within no time the truck manufacturers caught
up to the new widths, as did the wheels. Wheels designed with double
conicals - shaped to prevent getting hung up on the coping when skating
the pool.
Within the next year, pro models popped up everywhere and the boards
were no longer natural wood with a logo on them, but full of colors and
graphics that made it easy to choose one for your own. Even though skateboarding
died in the early 80's, the core movement went underground and continued
to pump out products that kept skateboarders geared up for riding ramps
and the streets.
Teton Village Sports is excited to be able to offer a wide selection
of old school products. Some models are limited editions, some are available
in assorted colors, and some are gone one day, available the next. If
you don't see what you are looking for, contact us by email or at 888-734-1507.
